One Battle After Another

This movie sucks shit. It's very entertaining minute to minute, but in the end it tells us nothing, shows us nothing, and is about an hour longer than I'd allow given those failings. Fascism is played for cheap laughs as much as anything. The Christmas whatever is a group that seems well funded and powerful and have a funny name, eat shit fascists? Honestly I kinda knew the problem the movie would have early on. The French 75 are a violent resistance group. Not the kind of violent where they kill people, but the kind that blow stuff up (only when empty) and have guns they sometimes shoot in the air or threaten you with. So when your violent group is actually doing what they can to avoid violence, well, it's going to lead to some confused messaging. The movie's villain is killed on screen. He is then brought back from the dead (two people checked!!) for one of the movie's weirdest and worst jokes (when your punchline is "reverse rape" I'm going to need you to go back to the drawing board. I will however give it to "semen demon"). And that's all he's brought back for, then he's then killed again. The movie ends 17 years from the start. The same fascists are in charge but we've moved from "violent" action to protesting in Oakland. Bob having survived a harrowing few days and saved his daughter from the same is back to his comforts, being an alcoholic who is constantly smoking weed. What the fuck am I supposed to take from any of this? For anyone telling us this is an Important movie about These Times I'd ask you to explain why, and be specific.
