Review

I really quite enjoyed this book. The prose and translation are both excellent. The pacing was a big part of the book's charm to me. For a short book it has a very simple plot, and fairly simple characters and motivations, but it is very focused on these characters and their interactions. The book's relationship with chronology and time is linear but erratic which works very well. It very much falls into the broad sub-genre I'd define as "post-bubble Japanese malaise" and I think it's a good example of it.
