The Fantastic 4: First Steps

This wasn't bad, the world building/design was great, cast worked well, Galatctus is the correct FF4 story to tell. But it wasn't great. I think the writing lets it down some, I didn't chuckle until the final scene, and some bits feel like they were probably left on the cutting room floor. It also I think suffers a little in two regards; first a lack of fights- because of the plot in question there isn't much need to fight until the end so it feels a little bit too little too late. And while I think there should be more room for less-punchy super hero stories that only works for me if the end of the movie isn't "well, time to punch the baddie." The second issue is I don't feel like it captured space well at all. It seems like the first FF4 space mission gave them super powers. The second they have an advanced FTL device?? Feels like there is a middle ground of space exploration there. And in general the sense of distance, time, and speed is very muddy, which is a shame because some of those things are core to the plot! Anyway, this was fine, I'd watch another with this cast.
